Although I was disappointed not to have another 10-goal thriller between Man Utd and Arsenal, the Red Devils came off with a 2-1 win, with Robin Van Persie scoring against his old club but sensibly refusing to celebrate the goal, while like in most United matches lately, there was some drama with Wilshere sent off. United took the lead after only 3 minutes, as Vermaelen mis-cleared, and the ball fell kindly to RvP who scored with his weaker foot, the right one. From there United allowed Arsenal to take on with the proceedings but showed good resolve to keep them at bay, although Ramsey threatened but De Gea parried his shot. Rooney even managed to miss a penalty as half time beckoned, following a handball from Cazorla. The second half had its own share of dramas as well. First Giroud came close for Arsenal, then RvP found Mannone in his way for what looked like his second. However, from the resulting corner kick, Evra made no mistake as he pounced to head in Rooney’s cross on the 67th minute. Minutes later Wilshere got his marching orders following a second yellow for a tackle on Evra, and it looked game, set and match. However in injury time, Cazorla managed to grab a consolation goal as he curled in a shot past De Gea who was clearly beaten in this case to do anything to stop the shot, but it was the last kick on the ball as the ref brought an end to the match.
