United back in business

A week after the disastrous defeat in the derby match against Man City, United got back to their winning ways, & in great style, by seeing off Arsenal in the FA CUP 5th round by a resounding 4-0 victory. The 1st half was pure Man U pressure on the Arsenal’s defense , and with 16min on the clock, Rooney opened the scoring with a brilliant header, followed by Fletcher & Nani to make it 3-0 at half time. The second half was like the 1st one, with even a red card shown to Arsenal defender, Emmanuel Eboue for a reckless tackle on Patrice Evra.

Fletcher added a fourth, his second of the day, with 15 minutes left before the final whisle, n even the introduction of Adebayor for Arsenal did not change the gameplay.

Team line-ups:

Manchester United: Van der Sar; Brown, Ferdinand (c), Vidic, Evra; Nani, Fletcher, Carrick, Park; Anderson (Scholes, 71), Rooney (Saha, 71).
Subs not used: Kuszczak, O’Shea, Tevez.

Arsenal: Lehmann; Hoyte, Gallas, Toure, Traore; Eboue, Gilberto, Fabregas (Flamini, 70); Hleb (Senderos, 70), Bendtner, Eduardo (Adebayor (70).
Subs not used: Fabianski (GK), Clichy

Attendance: 75,550

Elsewhere, in an early kickoff, rivals Liverpool were beaten at home by a determined Barnsley team, 1-2, where the Barnsley keeper, Steele made superb saves to keep his team in the match, & they finally won it in the dying seconds of added time.

On Monday there will be the draw for the next round, where Man U may meet another giant of the premier league or a team from the lower divisions.

N not forget the Champions League matches on Tuesday & Wednesday night, where we’ll have big clashes like Liverpool vs Inter, Man U vs Lyon, Arsenal vs AC Milan, & Roma vs Real Madrid amongst other fixtures for the first leg.
