On Sunday 11, after a very very tight Premier League 2007/2008 Season, Man Utd were finally crowned as England Champions 2008, when they went to win at the JJB Stadium against Wigan Athletic. Chelsea, who were hoping that Man Utd would either draw or lose against a rejuvenated Wigan team were left heart-broken, and despite leading with a Shevchenko’s goal in the 63rd minute against Bolton (who were in danger of relegation), they were caught up in the final few minutes of stoppage time, as Bolton equalized, and finally a title which was going to be decided on goal difference was actually won by Man Utd by a 2pts lead over Chelsea.
Indeed had United make a draw, the title would still have been theirs since they had a far better goal difference over Chelsea, although they would have been leveled on points, but a defeat for United was unthinkable at this very late stage of the competition, since it would have meant losing their 17th Champions Title. Sir Alex Ferguson & Ryan Giggs were on cloud 9 as this was their 10th Premier League title, a record unmatched so far.
Later that same evening, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded 3 more awards, namely: Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the year, and the Goal of the Season.
Now next stop is Moscow, where the Champions League final will be held between Man Utd and Chelsea… I hope Man Utd succeeds in completing a well deserved double.
