Manchester United have become the first English club to win the Club World Cup 2008 to become the best team of the planet after beating LDU Quito 1-0. This competition involved all the champions of the different continents, and was held in Japan.
The final was held today at Yokohama with an assistance of 68682 spectators. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal on 73 minutes, with United being 1 man down after Vidic was sent off for elbowing an opponent on 49 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo provided Rooney with a masterful pass and Rooney placed the ball expertly on the left hand side of the keeper.
The scoreline should have been more for United, except for the saves made by Quito’s keeper Jose Cevallos to deny Rooney, Tevez and Park in the 1st half. Van der Sar also made some fine saves to deny the Quito’s players, notably Manso.
It is the first time an English club have won the tournament in its expanded form and the second time United have been crowned best on the planet following their victory over Palmeiras in 1999.
Wayne Rooney also got the trophy for being the top scorer with 3 goals in 2 games, and Ronaldo was 2nd.
There is no better gift than winning this Club World Cup trophy just a few days before Christmas…the best gift for the fans and the whole team. Next stop will be Stoke City on Boxing day.
Viva The Red Devils!!! Viva Rooney!!! Kings of the world!!!
