FA Cup final 2008/2009 winner: Chelsea

Chelsea have won the FA Cup trophy as a farewell gift for Guus Hiddink, the interim manager who came to the team for the last few months, as they defeated Everton on a 2-1 scoreline today at Wembley.

The game, however, started really well for Everton, and just after kickoff, within only 25 seconds, Louis Saha, ex-United player, volleyed a left foot shot past Cech to give his team the lead. But after that goal, unlike Man Utd on Wednesday night, Chelsea got hold of themselves and put more and more pressure on Everton. On 21 minute mark, a cross from Malouda found Drogba in the box, and the header of the striker had Howard well beaten, and Chelsea got their deserved equaliser.

At half time it was 1-1, and the second half saw Chelsea keeping the pressure on, with Everton only trying to create some counterattacks, but all in vain. On 72 minutes, a 20 yard effort from Lampard gave Chelsea the lead, and that second goal was enough for them to win, even though Malouda had a goal robbed, since his shot came off the bar, bounced behind the goal line and came out, but neither the referee nor his assistant spotted it, which would have given Chelsea a 3-1 win. So eventually the game ended 2-1 for Chelsea, and Hiddink is a happy man for his brief stay in the club and winning a silverware at least.

As a round-up of this 2008-2009 season, Manchester United won 4 trophies (Community Shield, Premier League, Carling Cup and FIFA Club World Cup), Chelsea won the FA Cup today, while both Liverpool and Arsenal are trophyless. 😀

In Spain Barcelona made a treble (La Liga champions, Copa del Rey and Champions League winners), in Germany its VfL Wolfsburg which won the league title, in Italy its Mourinho’s Inter Milan the Seria A champions, and in France we have to wait for tonight to know who will eventually win it.

The transfer saga will start really soon, who will be in/out of the teams, just stay tune for more details 😉
