Roger Federer creates history

Roger Federer created history today by winning his 15th Gran Slam title (previous record was 14) and 6th Wimbledon title, although it took him more than 4 hours of play to finally beat Andy Roddick in a very close final at Wimbledon. The match was being watched by many celebrities present, including 14 time gran slam winner Pete Sampras, whose record was broken today, and other famous celebrities, like former tennis champions Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver, and Hollywood stars Woody Allen, Ben Stiller; and even Sir Alex!! 😀

Federer had to fight hard, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 to eventually set a new record of gran slam wins, and has promised to participate in next year’s tournament as well. Federer has become world no.1 again after this win, while Roddick remains at 6th place.

  1. I think he might be the greatest tennis player ever … even though some argue that Rod Laver may be the best. Laver won all the 4 gran slam titles in the same year and is the only one to have done so (so far). Federer and Agassi won the 4 but in different years. Also Laver turned professional quite old (at 24) and so did not compete for long, but his record is outstanding considering the small amount of time he spent on the circuit.
