Premier League Week 7 & CL Week 2 roundup

A late post for the review on what happened in the English Premier League Gameweek 7 which took place last weekend, and this will be a rather brief one, since will have a brief review on Champions League action which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday as well 😉

Premier League round up

Manchester United managed to win after long minutes of battling against a Stoke City side which was prepared to at least take 1 pt from the game, but it took the craftsmanship of a certain Ryan Giggs to eventually sink Stoke’s resilience. Giggs came on as a 55th minute sub for Nani, and 5 minutes later, he was gifting Berbatov a goal. Then on 76th minute, he took a freekick into  the box and O’Shea headed home the second goal. 3pts secured, and United are league leaders after Chelsea lost to Wigan.

Chelsea had a rather hard day, with Cech sent off for a foul, and then down to 9 men as Cole limped out with an injury. Wigan rose to the occasion and scored 2 more goals, ending Chelsea’s winning run, 3-1 for the Lactics at the final whistle.

Liverpool completely thrashed a Hull City side lacking conviction, 6-1 the scoreline, with a hattrick by Torres, 1 goal for Gerrard, and 2 for Babel, with Giovani scoring the only one for Hull.

Arsenal won 1-0 against Fulham, Van Persie the scorer, but Fulham looked the better side but failed to score as Mannone was the hero for Arsenal, he who is their 3rd choice keeper, but played better than their 1st choice in that game.

Other results as follows:

Man City won easily against West Ham, Tevez scoring a double and Petrov one, while Cole had equalized for West Ham but were not able to hold on, 3-1 City winners, and only 3 pts behind the leaders and with a game still in hand.

Sunderland won 5-2 against Wolves, while Portsmouth’s misery continued, losing 0-1 to Everton. Birmingham lost to Bolton, 1-2, while Blackburn managed a 2-1 win over Aston Villa, and another thrashing at the Lane, where Tottenham won comfortably, 5-0 over Burnley, with Robbie Keane netting 4.

On Wednesday, Bayern Munich and Juventus saw each other off at a nil-nil scoreline although Bayern deserved to win, while Manchester United came back from behind to win 2-1 against Wolfsburg, with Giggs once again at the center of United’s win, scoring his 150th goal through a deflected freekick, and then setting up Carrick for the winner 12 minutes from the end.
