Ryan Giggs was named BBC Sports Personality of the year 2009 last night as the Welsh wizard beat Formula One champion, Jensen Button, to claim the award which shocked him of all people. Jessica Ennis completed the podium.
Giggs was afterwards quoted as:
Perhaps I’ve become more appreciated as I have got older. It’s unusual for a 36-year-old to be playing with a team like Manchester United for 20 years but I am enjoying it and long may it continue. I am playing for the greatest manager that has ever lived and I’m playing for the greatest club. I grew up watching this programme. To see the people that have won it and to be here is unbelievable.
Talks about his future are going on, with United ready to give him another year on his contract, given his current contract expires at the end of the season, and he is already 36, but one thing is sure, till he plays he’ll always come up with some magic to help United play top football, and he is already an inspiration to many young footballers. Also may be time he is given the title ‘Sir’ by her majesty the queen!! Kudos to ‘Sir’ Ryan Giggs…
