Manchester United suffered a humiliating defeat at Craven Cottage some minutes ago, as Fulham easily thrashed them 3-0 to give Chelsea some breathing space in the title race as they face West Ham tomorrow, while Sir Alex was left pondering what went wrong in his game plan.
Fulham deserved this victory as they did not allow United to play their usual football and Zamora was the main threat as United keep dealing with the injury crisis on the defenders, with yet again Carrick and Fletcher were forced to play at the back, alongside Evra and De Laet. Fulham were the more menacing team as the match progressed, and Kuszczak was called to make a brilliant save from Gera, but he was helpless on Murphy’s 30-yards strike as he took full advantage of Scholes slow reaction to rob the latter and open the score.
Fulham could have been further ahead some minutes later but Zamora flashed his header wide. Meanwhile United were unable to construct any worthwhile attack to try get an equalizer, and eventually half time arrived, with Schwarzer barely having a save to make at the other end.
19 seconds in the second half and Fulham doubled their lead as Zamora found the net to confirm the menace looming on United. Berbatov and Fabio were brought on to try salvage something, but although they changed the course of the game for some minutes, Fulham were again settled and eventually Duff rifled home after Zamora set him up in the box. 3-0, United were down and out of the game, even the introduction of Welbeck was to no avail, and Sir Alex must be thinking who to line-up in the next game to get back to winning ways.
