Berba”flop” has almost signed his “death warrant” with Man Utd following today’s match against Chelsea at Old Trafford, with leading scorer Rooney out for at least 2 weeks since his injury last Tuesday, and the Blues took full opportunity and won 1-2, albeit an offside goal from Drogba which somehow was allowed to stand by the officials, and which condemns United to their second defeat in a row for the week following the defeat in Munich on the same scoreline last Tuesday, and which drops them to second place in the league.
Manchester United were very poor since kickoff, and it was all Chelsea in the build-up as they put pressure early on. The goal had to come for Chelsea, and was eventually scored as Malouda, who is currently in great form, took on Valencia, then Fletcher to slide a pass in the box, and Joe Cole took a cheeky back-heel past Van Der Sar to open the score. United were left without any reaction as Chelsea continued to press. Half time came at the right moment for the Red Devils as they struggled to keep Chelsea at bay.
The second half nearly saw Chelsea double their lead but Ferreira’s pass across ball fell to no-one in the end. But slowly United were getting back in the game as Fletcher took matters in his hands to drive his teammates forward, and although things started to work out well for them, they failed to apply the finishing touch, with Berbatov once again proving he is not the same player we usually saw playing while he was with Spurs, and the fans will surely ask for his exit at the end of the season, unless they are absolute fools (I personally want him to be sold or allow to leave freely as he is not worth the United shirt!!!)
Chelsea brought on Drogba and Kalou as they sensed that United were getting the upper hand, and Drogba proved to be fatal minutes later, although he was clearly offside, but he scored and the goal was allowed to stand. 0-2 Chelsea had already done the hard part it seemed, but 2 minutes later substitute Macheda brought United back in the game. Nani sent a dangerous pass across goal, and Cech flapped the ball straight against Macheda’s chest and the ball ricocheted off him and into the net, and although it was a lucky goal, he had the presence of mind to be there at the right time. United could have equalized in the last minute, but Berbatov volleyed it straight into Cech, leaving the Blues celebrating a lucky win for them as well with that offside goal, but which sends them back to the first place, with 2 points clear off Man Utd.
If Bayern Munich have followed today’s game, am sure they will not be afraid anymore to come and try seal their passage for the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night, while for United if they want to qualify then a performance like today must be avoided at all cost, and why not drop Berbaflop for the young Macheda instead in attack, as he looked more lively and produced more movements than the former, despite being on for the last 15 minutes.
