Second friendly match for Manchester United took place last night against Philadelphia Union as the Red Devils continue their North American tour, and yet another hard-fought win, with this time Obertan scoring the only goal of the match on the 76th minute, and Sir Alex could also thank his luck and his keeper Kuszczak for keeping a clean-sheet.
Manchester United started off well, and could have easily been a couple goals up in the opening 10 minutes, but failed to take the opportunities, and could have paid the price if Mwanga had connected with his shot properly. Welbeck then saw his shot stopped by Knighton at the other end. 0-0 at half time, and the second half saw Welbeck yet again in action but failed to place his shot correctly as it flew just wide. Kuszczak was called in action at the other end as Zimmerman had a shot on goal.
United had a penalty turned down as Obertan was clipped in the box, and soon after Kuszczak was yet again in action as he saved from Califf’s header. Then came the goal of relief for United as Welbeck found Obertan who slotted home. Substitute Berbatov then found the cross bar in his way three minutes later, while Giggs was denied a clear penalty after being blocked.
United survived another scare as Le Toux blasted a shot over, while De Laet could have given United a 2-goal lead in the closing minutes.
Still United have not really convinced me on this tour, as they are facing tough times, and these are only friendlies, now just imagine what could happen in the Premier League when they face the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and so on…
Next stop will be against Kansas City Wizards on Sunday, and hopefully we’ll get a better display from the Red Devils in that game with lots of goals 😎
