A 7-goal thriller against MLS All-Stars, 5 of which scored by United, saw them bounce back positively from their weekend defeat against KC Wizards, and also allowed Javier Hernandez, a.k.a. Chicharito, to score his first goal in his first appearance wearing a United shirt. The other United goals came from Macheda(2), Gibson and Cleverley.
United had to make amends for the defeat against Kansas City WIzards, and they took the opportunity presented to them with only 24 seconds played, when a back pass from MLS All-Stars’ Alstone fell in the path of Kiko, and the latter did not waste his moment of limelight to open the score. He was in the thick of the action again on 12 minutes as he headed home his second.
The MLS All-Stars woke up after being shocked so early in the game, and put the pressure on Van Der Sar, but United held on to their 2-goal lead till half time. The second half started well for the MLS All-Stars as Marshall saw his header saved by Van Der Sar. On the hour mark, Chicharito came on for Nani, but saw United concede a goal soon after as Ching headed home for the All-Stars.
United got back their 2-goal lead on 70 minutes, as Rimando could do little to save a sublime freekick from Gibson, 20 yards out. On the 73rd minute, Cleverley comforted the advantage as he volleyed an unstoppable shot past Rimando yet again. Chicharito got on the scoresheet as well on the 84th minute as he brilliantly looped the ball into the far corner of Rimando following a superb cross from Fletcher.
De Rosarino netted a second for the MLS All-Stars in the final minute, but United were untroubled by then, and became the first Premier League team to beat the MLS All-Stars in normal time. Next stop will be against C.D Guadalajara on the 31st, where Chicharito will may be start the match against his ex-teammates.
Bad news however for the Red Devils as well, as Obertan seemed to have injured his ankle during the match, and will be out for at least 2 weeks.
