Almost 24 hours after Christmas, Berbatov gave the fans 2 wonderful gifts to complete the celebrations on Boxing Day as the Red Devils easily saw off Sunderland at Old Trafford to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League, and also boost the confidence level after nearly 15 days without playing a single game due to bad weather, and also important for the days to come as United will be in action again on Tuesday as the festive games continue.
It took United only 5 minutes to find the net, but it had to be noted that they were not on top during that period as Sunderland were in charge for the early minutes. But a quick counter led by Giggs, who found Rooney on the edge of the box, and the latter’s perfect cross for Berbatov to nod home switched United into gear as the Red Devils created some more chances, and took possession of the ball, forcing Sunderland to defend deep. Berbatov hit the post minutes later, while Anderson saw his shot crash against the bar as the Red Devils looked to kill off the game. However, with around 15 minutes to half-time, they killed off the pressure, allowing Sunderland to get back in control, but not bothering the Red Devils as such.
The second half started yet again like the first one, and again United’s second came while Sunderland were menacing to find a breakthrough, this time Anderson served Berbatov, and the latter’s shot deflected off Anton Ferdinand to beat Gordon. Sir Alex then proceeded with two changes, as Giggs and Anderson made way, while Macheda and Gibson came on to bring some freshness as United looked to crack in a third, but without success and in the end 2-0 the final score. Next game will be away at Birmingham, could prove to be a tricky one as well, and hopefully the Red Devils will come on top.
