Wolves shame Manchester United

Elokobi equalizes for Wolves

Manchester United’s unbeaten Premier League run came to an end against Wolves, as the Red Devils were burnt to ashes by Wolves, which deserved this win being the better team throughout the game, and may be leaving Sir Alex to ponder whether like Chelsea and Liverpool, he too should have got involved in the transfer market to strengthen the team in all the departments, as today’s loss can be credited to some ineffective defending and almost no attacking power, the sexy and the efficiency are still not present for the Old Trafford outfit, despite still being leaders; but for how many days now seems to be the question.

United were under pressure from kickoff, but Nani somehow managed to score on the 3rd minute to give United the lead, but Wolves recovered from the shock and on the 10th minute Elokobi made up for his mistake which led to Nani’s opener, as United failed to deal with a quickly taken corner kick, and Elokobi was on hand to head home the equalizer from Jarvis’ cross. Wolves upped the tempo while United slumped totally, and they never managed to get back in the game again. Wolves took the lead on the 40th minute as the combination of Elokobi and Doyle managed to get the ball in the net from Milijas’ free-kick. 2-1 at half time, plenty left for Sir Alex to deal with it seemed.

However the second half turned out to be a carbon copy of the first one, with no more goals scored, but United giving their worst display so far, and even the introduction of Scholes and Chicharito did little to spark United in action, and they totally ran out of ideas to suffer their first Premier League defeat after managing to hold on for 29 games previously, while Wolves deserve all the credits for out-playing United and winning the game. Only one real shot on target for Man Utd, it sums up the night for them, no real attacking threat, the midfield was almost nonexistent, while the defense without Rio Ferdinand was very vulnerable, and no wonder Wolves were having a great time tormenting them at every opportunity. Will Sir Alex regret not taking part in the transfer window? Or will the team be able to bounce back and play well again? Only time  will tell. We can fear the worst when United will visit Chelsea, with the likes of Torres and Drogba, it could easily end up 5/6 goals by half-time…

United still top the league however, with 4 points clear off Arsenal, the latter having had a bizarre day as well, leading 4-0 at half time only to end up 4-4 against Newcastle, but with 10-men on the field after Diaby’s red card. Man City took full opportunity to close the gap, as Tevez scored a hat-trick against West Brom to keep the Citizens in the race.
