An ugly point but so precious: 19 times and it’s a fact!

Rooney celebrates equalizer against Blackburn

The 19th title is here!!! Liverpool have been knocked off their perch, and now the Red Devils sit on it, but it was a tense one, as Blackburn made the suspense dwell until the 72nd minute, and it took a stupid foul from Blackburn keeper Robinson, on Chicharito, to see United win the much needed 1 point courtesy of Rooney to seal the record 19th title for the Red Devils. Glory Glory Man United!!!

United started the first 10 minutes very well, with Nani hitting the cross bar as they tried to score early, but soon afterwards it was all Blackburn. Samba gave a warning to the United defense but his shot flew well over the bar, but Emerton made United pay on the 20th minute as Kuszczak’s passivity and earlier mistake had shaken his teammates, and Emerton took full opportunity of yet another passive defending to slot home the opener, and cast some doubts in the United players’ minds. A doubt which made its impact, as United clearly failed to respond, while Blackburn controlled the game till half-time.

The second half was no better as United failed to make Blackburn’s keeper work, and yet again Blackburn threatened to move ahead, but Olsson’s header hit the post, with Kuszczak beaten. United however somehow managed to get back in the game, as Chicharito was fouled by Robinson in the box, although it looked a disputable one, as the former had lost the ball, but the latter went on to clip his foot, and after consultation with the linesman, the referee awarded the penalty on the 72nd minute. Rooney stepped up, and sent Robinson the wrong way to give United the much longed 1 point, and from there on, it was like a no contest match, as both teams decided to settle for the draw, with United passing the ball at the back, while Blackburn did not offer any sort of pressure to see off the remaining 15 minutes or so. The whole United squad went mad on the final whistle, with Fergie dancing around and hugging all the players.

A tougher test now awaits them on the 28th of May, as Barcelona will travel to Wembley for the CL final, and believe me this will be another level of football, the fluid passing game of Barca, led by Messi, and the yet to known strategy that SAF will try to use to counter them.
