Manchester United eased past an old rival, Leeds United, in the Carling Cup at Elland Road last night, as Owen and Giggs got on the scoresheet to see off a 3-0 win in favour of the Red Devils. Owen took only 15 minutes to open the scoring, as he showed his skills on the ball to control Park’s pass and shoot the ball through Leeds’ defender White’s legs, and past the keeper. Leeds tested Amos at the other end, but their endeavour was cut short as Owen scored his second, this time killing off a beautiful pass by Diouf, and without any backlift, sent the ball into the top corner on the 32nd minute, which even saw some Leeds fans applauding the goal, such beautiful was Owen’s move to conclude the action. The game was finally wrapped up by Giggs on the 45th minute, as he played a short corner with Park, received the ball back, nutmegged Snodgrass, advanced into the box and sent a beautiful shot past the keeper again. This was his final contribution as he was subbed for the second half by another promising youngster, Pogba, making his debut in the team. United were rarely troubled in the second half, and Owen even missed a chance to complete his hat-trick.
