Manchester United loses its mojo… Europa League now awaits

Too easy you said?! Then we’re off to the Europa League for a change…!!!

FC Basel dealt the knife deep in United’s ambitions as the Swiss champions easily eliminated the English champions from the Champions League group stages, a flattering 2-1 scoreline in the Swiss’ favour, their two goals coming from their 2 threatening attacks. United had many chances to score throughout the game, but wasted them and failed to really threatened except in the last minutes. United fell to an early Basel goal on the 9th minute, as Streller scored following a defensive mix up between Vidic and Smalling, leaving the latter on the ground with an injury, while Basel took full opportunity to score. United however were not really aggressive, despite holding on to the ball. The fatal blow came in the end of the second half, as Frei sent a diving header past De Gea on the 84th minute to seal Basel’s passage to the knock out rounds, and a late consolation, a lucky one indeed, from Jones on the 89th minute did little to change the course of the game. It is now Europa League awaiting the Red Devils, a humiliation really if you ask my personal opinion, and I will certainly not condemn those who want Sir Alex’s scalp… United’s tormentor of the night: Shaqiri, a solid and tricky winger, no doubt worth a look in the coming transfer windows, of course if he wants to leave Basel for a new adventure, which could end up for him in another CL qualified team, not United..

    • Indeed, but they created this mess themselves, lack of concentration, lack of passion, you name it… even Rooney looked uninterested in the late minutes, knowing it was over for them
