Merry Christmas from the Red Devils

Manchester United have shown they are back in business as they went to Craven Cottage to face Fulham, and returned with a 5-0 win over the Cottagers, with Ryan Giggs extending his record for scoring in every Premier League season so far since its creation. Rooney as well celebrated his 300th Premier League appearance with a sublime goal in the closing minutes, however, United lost both Jones, then his substitute, Young, to injuries, Jones with a concussion, while Young seemed to be injured on the ankle. Manchester City however still top the league following their win over Stoke.

United scored 5 minutes into the match, following a good run from Nani on his left wing, and his low cross was cut across by Welbeck for the opener. United created some more opportunities, but Jones had to be on hand to deny Fulham, and got injured in the process. United eventually found the net again through Nani on the 28th minute, as he headed in Giggs’ cross. Scorer then turned passer on the 43rd minute, as Nani’s passed the ball to Giggs, and the latter, with the help of a deflection off Senderos, sent the ball looping over the keeper and into the net. The Red Devils looked well in control, however, they became complacent in the second half, and Fulham applied the pressure to United’s backline, which looked became very disordered, and gave the impression to crack at any minute. In truth, if it was one of the big teams, then United would have surely conceded, and even lose their goal advantage, but Fulham failed to score, and United held on. However, on the 88th minute, Rooney eventually found the net for United, as he thumped in a 30-yard effort which completely surprised the keeper, while minutes later, Berbatov scored with a cheeky back-heel for the fifth goal of the night.

In other games, Man City won comfortably at home to Stoke, 3-0, while Arsenal left it late away against Aston Villa, 1-2, Benayoun rescuing the 3 points for the Gunners. With this win, City still tops the league table, while United follows 2 points behind, and a beautiful derby awaiting in London, as Tottenham take on Chelsea on Thursday.
