Ajax frightened the Red Devils

Sir Alex and his young team had to endure a nail-biting finish to eventually progress to the Europa League’s next round, as the Red Devils, having won 2-0 in the away tie, were given a reminder almost “à la” Basel, as Ajax clawed back from being 3-0 down on aggregate in the opening minutes, to 3-2 by the final whistle, defeating the Red Devils 1-2 in the process, but eventually falling short to send them out.

United scored early in the game through Chicharito on the 6th minute, as Berbatov fed him with an inch-perfect pass, and the former made no mistake to score his 10th of the season. However, Ajax had decided to battle on, and did jsut that, as they started to pin United back, and eventually, on the 37th minute, Özbiliz scored for them, as he volley home after Jones’ intervention gifted him the ball. The second half saw Ajax becoming more menacing, and De Jong forced De Gea into a reaction save to keep the score level. However, with 3 minutes to go, Alderweireld scored again for Ajax, as he headed from close range to pile the pressure on United, but the Red Devils managed this time to survive thanks to the aggregate score, and will now meet Athletic Bilbao in the next round.
