Goals from Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in the last 10 minutes of the game against Blackburn at Ewood Park made sure United claimed the 3 points when it looked least probable, and opened a gap of 5 points with Man City. The joy from the away stands and the whole United staff was a feat to watch, as United really had to toil hard yet again for this important win.
The game looked to be set for a draw, as despite Chicharito threatening in the first half, which saw his shot saved by Robinson, it was Blackburn which nearly scored in the dying minutes of the first half, and De Gea had to produce a string of fine saves to keep them at bay. United had the most possession, but could not really conjure up a crack in the Blackburn defense. The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first, as United looked to pass the ball round while Blackburn threatened on counters, and we had to wait until the 81st minute to finally see United score, as Valencia conjured up a stunning effort in an almost impossible angle to score and let his joy flow. Then it was Young’s turn to score on the 86th minute, as he collected Valencia’s pass on the edge of the box, and with a quick turn and shot, he got the ball perfectly placed to beat Robinson for a second time, sealing the win on yet another tough footballing night, and sending both Sir Alex and the fans in ecstasy. Part of the mission accomplished, the team however has to stay focused on the task and not let any complacency creep in.
