Comeback heroes (Part II)

Manchester United had to rely on another miracle today to see off Aston Villa, as the Red Devils gave a very poor display in the first half despite having long possession of the ball but the punch was missing, and they even went down 1-0 when Benteke played off Smalling cunningly to cross for Weimann, who easily scored from the edge of the box just before half time. The second half was no good despite Chicharito coming on for Young, as Weimann was again present to slot home Agbonlahor’s cross past a very passive United defense on the 49th minute. Villa’s counter-attacking football seemed to be causing a lot of problems to United, but from a trivial long ball from Scholes, Chicharito managed to control and roll the ball past Guzan to reduce the deficit on the 58th minute. He was again involved in the equalizer this time on the 63rd minute, as he volleyed Rafael’s cross in with the help of a deflection off Vlaar. However De Gea had to be vigilant on the other end as Weimann went for his hat-trick, and the Spanish keeper had to dive his full length to keep the ball out. We had to wait until the 87th minute to finally see United move ahead, as Chicharito headed in RvP’s freekick, the latter having rattled the crossbar twice previously with a header and a long range effort. United then managed to soak up a late pressure by Villa to finally breathe a sigh of relief and stay on top of the table, all thanks to the Little Pea and his presence in front of goal.
