Sir Alex was back in the stands to watch the match, and should have been happy to see his last season signing Van Persie opening the score on the 26th minute after Rooney’s initial attempt was blocked by Boruc, and Rooney rattling the bar minutes later. However, United got caught in the dying minutes of the game, and reasonably so as Southampton had enjoyed more possession of the ball, and had more shots on target and off target than United. Lovren snatched the equalizing goal for the Saints on the 89th minute following a corner kick, and both teams parted off with a draw, with United still looking really weak this season if compared to Arsenal or Liverpool or Chelsea, all 3 on a roll and having a margin of about 8 points on United already.
