Last night, Manchester United officially announced the successful transfer of 25 year-old Juan Manuel Mata García, or simply Juan Mata, from Chelsea to the former, with a fee amounting around £37M. Mata had so far enjoyed about 2 and a half years at Chelsea before joining the Red Devils, as he looks to get more playtime and why not help Moyes and Co. steer the Red ship in the right direction following some disastrous results since the beginning of 2014. However, it would be very greedy on behalf of the fans to expect him to bring drastic changes in United’s gameplay on his debut, since he needs to adapt first, and of course there are still other issues in the line-up where Moyes needs to brush-up. But let’s hope Mata settles in quickly and help United at least claim a 4th spot at the end of the season. Moyes is also keen to bring some more signings, but only time will tell if he’s successful in doing so.
Interviewed later last night, Mata was quoted:
I am thrilled to be joining United. I have enjoyed some very happy years at Chelsea but the time has come for a new challenge. United is the perfect place for me and I am excited at the chance I have to be part of the next phase in the club’s history.
“Chelsea is a top club and I have many friends there but you cannot turn down the chance to join Manchester United. I look forward to helping the manager and the team be successful in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have closed in on Mohammed Salah as a replacement of their own following Mata’s departure, with the Egyptian also attracting interest from Liverpool.
