The Welsh Wizard works out his magic

manunitedcelebsecondvncfc20140426_576x324Ryan Giggs’ first game in charge as interim manager for Manchester United went very well today, as along with Scholes, Butt and Neville, he saw the Red Devils bring back the lost passion and commitment to win 4-0 on home turf against Norwich. Giggs was greeted like a superstar before kick-off by all fans present in the stadium, and he responded by saluting all 4 corners of the ground, and was cheered on again when he made his way from the bench to the sideline for the first time on the 6th minute. It was a laborious first half thou, as United kept possession but failed to create any meaningful chance to score, until Welbeck won a penalty on the 41st minute, and Rooney stepped up to send Ruddy the wrong way from the spot. Giggs must have revitalized the troop at half-time, as United came back looking more dangerous, and Rooney added a second on the 48th minute as he curled in a shot off the post, despite slipping in the process. Mata, who came on as a substitute for Welbeck, added a third on the 63rd minute as he turned in Jones’ low cross. United kept on going forward thou, something which we rarely saw so far, and Mata completed his double on the 73rd minute as he headed in Valencia’s powerful volley across goal. Chicharito then missed a glorious opportunity to make it 5 as his shot drifted wide, while Norwich came close for a consolation, as Olsson’s shot took a deflection off Jones and went out off the bar. Giggs could not have had a better start, as the team scored 4 times and kept a cleansheet, with the players looking more lively, although it has to be said, some more work is required to bring United back to the top to challenge for the trophies again next season. Louis Van Gaal is favorite to take over next season, but I believe most fans would want Giggs to take over instead on a longer basis as the rebuilding process is on, but of course the final decision will be taken by the board. The impact Giggs had today was positive thou, as United had 25 shots, with 11 of them on target, while last weekend it was only 1 shot against Everton, and also today, the players seemed to have let go of the pressure, and instead enjoyed themselves, while entertaining the fans as well.
