The battle for the title turned into Man City’s favor as the curtains were drawn on a magnificent season 2013-2014 in the Premier League today. Liverpool looked to be favorites at one point to lift the trophy, but after failing against Chelsea, where they needed minimum a draw but lost, the Reds looked somewhat distraught, and the fatal blow came at Crystal Palace, where they let go of a 0-3 lead to eventually draw at 3-3, leaving City the leisure to leap over them in the table with a 2-points difference. Suárez crying after that match symbolized the turn around of the season, as City thrashed Villa 4-0 to claim top spot, and today ended the season with a 2-0 win over West Ham to claim the title, while Liverpool, despite winning 2-1 over Newcastle, had to eventually content themselves with the 2nd spot, but still achieving their initial aim, and that was to get in the Champions League. Chelsea and Arsenal as well secured their Champions League spots, while Everton and Tottenham qualified for the Europa League. One team which needs to forget this season quickly is Manchester United. The Red Devils could not perform like in the previous seasons, and worst, failed to qualify for European football. First came the Moyes’ saga, first acclaimed as the Chosen One, before eventually being called the Wrong One, then came Giggs to the rescue. Giggs’ last 4 games at the head of the team gave him all the emotions, 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, the latter being at Southampton today on a 1-1 scoreline, with Mata rescuing a point for them. Liverpool duo, Suárez and Sturridge ended top two in the goal scoring ranks, the former with 31 goals, while the latter scored 21. Surprise for 3rd place, with Yaya Touré scoring 20 for City, surpassing strikers like Aguero and Dzeko in his team, while Rooney ended fourth with 17 goals, joint with Agüero. In the battle to avoid relegation, 3 teams which this time failed to save themselves were Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff, while Leicester and Burnley are automatically promoted to the EPL for next season, with the third team to join having to go through playoff games.
