Manchester United claimed another win last night in the 2nd match of their US tour, the International Champions Cup, albeit a tricky one ending on a 3-2 scoreline, as AS Roma gave United some thoughts for food, and Pjanic, despite being on the losing side, stole the show with a 60-yard wonder goal. Roma looked in control in the first half, but gave away two goals in 3 minutes, as Rooney found the net on the 36th minute following a 25-yard strike which ended into the top right hand corner, and Mata scored on the 39th minute following a good lob to make it 2-0 for the Red Devils. Rooney added his double on the 44th minute from the penalty spot, adding some gloss to the scoreline.
However, the party was not yet over, and Roma found a goal out of nowhere, as Pjanic’s 60-yard effort looped over Amos and found its way under the bar, and Totti gave United a scare in the closing minutes, as he converted from the spot on the 88th minute to bring the scoreline to 3-2, but United held on to claim the win. After the match, Van Gaal did admit thou that it was not a good performance for the Red Devils on the whole, as he wants the team to do better, certainly when having a 3-0 lead being cut down to a 1-goal deficit only in the end, but did also blame the weather conditions to some extent. Next stop for United will be against Inter Milan on July 30th (KO 00.30 BST), where last night itself Real Madrid and Inter drew 1-1, with Inter winning 3-2 on penalties.
