A second-half comeback saw Manchester United claim a 3-1 win over Liverpool to put an end to the Tour 2014, winning the International Champions Cup trophy in the process. Liverpool, however, were the ones to draw first blood on the 14th minute, as Jones committed a foul on Sterling, and Gerrard stepped up to score from the penalty spot. Liverpool controlled the proceedings from thereon till half time, and could have been awarded a second penalty as well, but the ref decided otherwise.
Sterling was proving to be too hot to handle as he threatened again to double Liverpool’s lead, but it was Rooney at the other end who found the net on the 55th minute as he scored from a tight angle, and was joined on the scoresheet 2 minutes later by Mata, whose shot deflected off Sakho and past Mignolet. The final and third goal for United came on the 89th minute, as Lingard scored with a fine volley from the edge of the area to seal the win and allow LVG to claim a first silverware already. United remained unbeaten in their pre-season games, and with this win, can hope to build up for a very good run in the Premier League as well to forget last season’s disappointment, and comeback with all guns firing.
