Mata saves the day

Juan Mata of Manchester United scores their first goal

Juan Mata came off the bench to gift a narrow victory to the Red Devils over Crystal Palace, as they struggled to find the breakthrough past a more weaker opponent, with the names like Rooney, Van Persie and Di Maria already starting to sound hollow, as they failed to bring in any positive impact during most of the match, and it does bring some questions to mind on whether Van Gaal’s tactics are really up to the demands of modern football and the Premier League, as the team seriously lack pace in attack, and just keep the ball moving in midfield whenever they get it, without being more creative.

Van Gaal has recently stated that it would take around 3 years to build this squad properly, and already comparisons are being made with Moyes’ recent performances with the team, and before today’s kickoff, it’s a pity but the former manager was already 4 points ahead of Van Gaal for the same number of games played, and United had to fight hard to win today, with Mata scoring 4 minutes after being subbed on, on the 67th minute, as his effort from the edge of the box took a deflection on its way in. He almost scored a second minutes later but his shot struck the post and Van Persie could only slice his volley well off target on the rebound. A more tougher match awaits them in 2 weeks’ time, as former Red Devil Welbeck will face them with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and given Arsenal’s attacking capabilities, it could be a very sour day for the Red Devils…
