Memphis Depay was on the score-sheet earlier today, as United faced off San Jose Earthquakes for their second Tour 2015 match in the International Champions Cup. The scoreline was 3-1 in United’s favour at the final whistle, with Mata and youngster Pereira scoring as well, while Alashe had scored what would become a consolation goal at 2-1 for San Jose Earthquakes. United came close to open the scoring early in the game as both Depay and Schneiderlin went close, but had to wait eventually for the 32nd minute to score through Mata, whose shot crept in off the post. Depay scored 4 minutes later, as he collected a bad pass from Pierazzi and went on to finish coolly for his first goal in a United shirt. San Jose Earthquakes however found a goal before half-time, as Alashe netted on the 42nd minute to keep the pressure on United.
United made 10 changes at half-time, and on the 61st minute, Pereira doubled United’s lead as he headed in Lingard’s cross after being left unmarked. San Jose Earthquakes threatened to get back in the game again, but Pelosi’s long range effort went over the bar, and United held on for their second win, with Barcelona awaiting in the wings as these 2 teams face each other on Saturday, with news of De Gea to be in goal for his first pre-season game, while Di Maria and Rojo will join the squad, but most probably not feature yet as they return from the Copa America competition.
