Red Devils held to stalemate draw

MUFC-NUFCThe Red Devils fired blanks today against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, as some boos rang down from the stands at the final whistle, with the match ending on a disappointing 0-0 scoreline. United had started brightly though, and Rooney even found the net in the opening minutes, but the goal was disallowed for an offside position, and from there on, Rooney failed to make an impact, looking more like a fish without water, and even Memphis, who had lit up the CL match during the week, struggled sometimes to get past Newcastle’s defenders, and faded much more in the second half like most of his team-mates, despite keeping possession of the ball, but failing to create a goal. Mata and Chicharito had the two most dangerous chances for United after Rooney’s disallowed goal, but failed to make them count in the end, and Newcastle’s defensive organization proved too much to deal with for the Red Devils, and could have even been a goal down in the closing seconds after Newcastle counter-attacked following a corner which saw Smalling’s header hit the post, and had Thauvin been a fraction of a second early to the ground, he may have well poked the ball past Romero following Cisse’s low pass. Lack of speed in the build-ups and also lack of offensive presence thwarted United’s ambition of the 3 points today, and it would be good for LVG and Co. to start looking for at least one pacey and prolific striker if they really want to challenge for the title this season, and of course a real right winger, since Mata looks more comfortable when he is in central midfield.
