It could have well been yet another frustrated night for the Red Devils and their fans as United played CSKA Moscow last night at Old Trafford, as it took 79 minutes before Rooney eventually found the net to score the winner in one of the decisive games in the CL group stages, and Van Gaal even felt the wrath of the fans when he substituted Martial to replace him with Fellaini, but in the end was relieved to see United claim an important win as they now sit top of the group, but with only 1 point separating them from PSV and Wolfsburg.
United started the match brightly, but again failed to find the net in the first 45 minutes, as Rooney and Co. wasted several chances to take the lead. Rojo and Rooney both wasted chances in the second half, while a disgruntled home crowd were surprised to see Martial being substituted, and did not fail to make the manager know about their feelings. De Gea and Smalling were then put into contribution by Doumbia as CSKA looked for a goal of their own, but it was United which went on to score eventually thru Rooney, as he headed in Lingard’s first time cross to take his scoring toll to 237 goals in the red shirt, moving level with Denis Law in the records-book, and turned what could have been a night of mutiny into a joyful one at the final whistle. As for Depay, he growing more and more into a junior Nani, as much was expected from him following his feats with PSV, but here he is looking totally lost and if his football does not get better, he will surely end up as Nani as well in the near future.
