Saved by a penalty kick

It seemed like the FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Sheffield United was heading for a lucrative replay, until that 93rd minute and a tackle by Hammond on Memphis to put Sheffield United to the sword. The Red Devils delivered another flat performance on a rainy night at Old Trafford, with the opposition well organized and not allowing them any clear chances to score, while some home fans booed at the end of the first half, then cheered ironically in the second half whenever there was an attempted shot towards goal. The Red Devils clearly lacked creativity upfront, and only kept possession of the ball. It looked all set for a replay as the game entered stoppage time, until Memphis made a dash into the box, but was clearly caught on the shin by Hammond as the latter came sliding in studs first. The referee pointed to the penalty spot, and Rooney stepped up to dispatch the ball past the keeper and send United to the fourth round of the competition.
