Opening game for United’s Tour 2016, and José Mourinho tasted his first defeat with the Red Devils, as they were torn apart by an impressive Borussia Dortmund side in China for the International Champions Cup. BVB, playing their 5th pre-season game, showed their sharpness by racing in-front in the first half. Their first goal came on the 19th minute as Castro stabbed home the opener. Aubameyang doubled their lead on the 39th minute from a penalty-kick conceded by Valencia who had handled the ball in the box.
Dembele made sure United were left further behind on the 57th minute as he lashed a shot past a helpless Romero. United however managed to get a consolation two minutes later, as Mata fed new boy Mkhitaryan for a tap-in. But that was all for United in that game, as Castro went on to seal his double and the Red Devils’ fate on the 86th minute with a 25-yard effort which ended up in the top-left corner of the keeper. Looks like Mourinho has more work to do to make this team one worth challenging for trophies for the coming season (and after seeing this match Pogba may well end up at Real Madrid or stay at Juve 😈 ) and the next stop will be against Manchester City for a first derby outside of Manchester, with Mourinho re-igniting his rivalry with Guardiola in the process well before the season starts.
