Mourinho in denial mode as Red Devils edged to EFL Cup final

Manchester United’s undefeated run came to an abrupt end last night as they lost 2-1 to Hull City for the return leg of the semi-final of the EFL Cup, but still progressed on to the final thanks to the aggregate score of 3-2 in their favour.

Yet, it was a very lucky escape for United, and the defeat was barely digested by Mourinho as well, who coincidentally was also celebrating his 54th birthday on the same day. For him the match ended 1-1 as he completely ignored the penalty awarded and converted in favour of Hull City, a sign which indicated he was clearly upset by the referee’s decision to award the home team a penalty but completely ignored a couple which should have been awarded to United as well.

In the end, record-breaker Rooney did not impose himself at any point in the match, and Pogba’s goal proved to be a vital one after Huddlestone had scored the opener on the 35th minute from the spot, the former then equalizing on the 66th minute, before Niasse gave the Tigers the win but not enough to send them to an eventual extra-time decider, allowing  the Red Devils to sort it out with the Saints of Southampton in Wembley.
