A rejuvenated display in the second half saw the Red Devils end their winless streak of 2017 by registering an important first win in 2018 against Everton at Goodison Park thanks to two beauties from Martial and Lingard.
The first half was not so special as the Red Devils were clearly in search of inspiration while Everton matched them in a balanced encounter as Bolasie was tormenting Lindelof on he latter’s right flank.
However Everton completely lost the plot in the second half as Mata was first to test Pickford who tipped the ball over the bar. Mata was in action again minutes later as his shot found the right post of Pickford but stayed out. However United were ahead on the 57th minute as Pogba found Martial on the edge of the box and the latter curled the ball into the top corner. United kept the pressure on and were rewarded again on the 81st minute as again Pogba found a pass to Lingard who took the ball and made his way towards goal before unleashing another beauty into the top corner to double the lead, and it was a deserved reward for the midfielder who worked hard throughout the game. Pogba was influential but his attempts to dazzle the opposition players sometimes backfired as he lost the ball too quickly, may be he should concentrate on playing it simple as he did for creating the 2 goals. United were barely troubled in the closing minutes as they start 2018 with a high note as compared to how they ended 2017.
