Nightmare at Wembley

Alexis Sanchez made his PL debut with the Red Devils at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur, but it was a feeling of déjà-vu for him and his new teammates as the game turned into a nightmare for them.

Eleven seconds in the game only and Eriksen had already found the net after Alli found him unmarked in the box and he easily slotted past De Gea. United tried an immediate response but failed to hit the target. At the other end Spurs looked more likely to double the lead as Alli and Kane went close but the second goal eventually came thru a United player. Jones completely missed his clearance following Trippier’s cross and the ball landed in the net to increase the gap between the two teams.

United were clearly in trouble as Spurs looked for a third and were relieved when half time came. United looked to get back into the game but Spurs threatened again and Eriksen saw his shot drop just wide of De Gea’s post and as the game wore on it looked more likely to finish on a 3-0 rather than United scoring but in the end the two goals of the first half were enough for Spurs while Alexis and Co. will have to ponder again on how to tackle big games.
