A deadly double from Rashford was enough for the Red Devils to see off rivals Liverpool, although the Red Devils were not on top of their game, and Bailly casted some doubt by scoring an own goal but in the end the Red Devils held on for the win.
United started the game without Pogba and with Rashford back in the squad after a long term absence. Liverpool had the most of the possession but on the 14th minute, Lukaku headed De Gea’s clereance into Rashford’s path, and the latter played off his defender before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the left corner. Ten minutes later, he took full opportunity of a loose ball in the box afte Lukaku had played in Mata, and again found the left corner to double the lead. Mata had the chance to score a third after the half hour mark, but hid acrobatic attempt flew wide.
United had a comfortable lead at half time, but the second halg saw a more improved Liverpool side on the pitch. They eventually got one goal back courtesy of a mistake from Bailly on the 66th minute. United however held on till the end depite Liverpool mounting the pressure to register a big win and put five points between them and Liverpool for the time being.
