After a brilliant run, the Red Devils have activated decline mode, first by drawing against Crystal Palace, then today by losing 3-2 to Arsenal in a thrilling game where the Gunners showed their superiority as a team and desire to win the league.
Arsenal tormented the Red Devils at the back with their speedy and technical players from kick-off, but United managed to get hold of the ball, pouncing on a defensive mistake from the Gunners to open the score via Rashford on the 17th minute with a long range effort. The lead lasted only seven minutes thou as Arsenal levelled thru Nketiah who lost Wan-Bissaka to head home. United were too reliant on Rashford thou, while players like Fernandes, Eriksen and Antony were disappointing in the first half.
The second half saw United defend more as Arsenal were clearly thirsty for the win, and Saka put them ahead on the 53rd minute with a brilliant shot to the far post, hitting Rashford’s celebration in the process as well to taunt the Red Devils. United didn’t give up thou, as a handling error from Ramsdale from a corner kick saw Martinez place a lobbed diving header for the equaliser on the 59th minute. But that was about it, as Rashford faded, meaning that his teammates in attack were ineffective alongside, while Arsenal piled on the pressure as they continued to search for a win. They were eventually rewarded at the death, as Nketiah scored again acrobatically to send the home fans in raptures, while United players looked on in disgust as they gave away the game. Blame to be attached to ten Hag as well, as he failed to make the necessary changes, keeping Eriksen and Weghorst on for full 90 minutes while both were not contributing to make the Red Devils click. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and help the Red Devils rise again as they need to stay in the top 4 else it’s back to Europa League and square one 😤
