Madras Cafe: Just WOW!!!

madras-cafe-posterToday I got the opportunity to watch Madras Cafe, a Bollywood political/espionage thriller starring John Abraham, and I was completely bowled over by this one. First of all, if you are only into romantic movies (SRK, Salman, Ranbir types), songs captured in gardens, wooing girls etc., then this movie is not for you at all 😀 .

Madras Cafe is a serious movie, more the Hollywood type films, with a terrific background score, and is related to the Sri Lankan Civil War. Yes, Bollywood usually stereotypes the India-Pakistan enmity, but this time with Madras Cafe, the theme itself is very different, more related to the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, and the plot is really gripping from start to finish, narrated in a very professional fashion, and making it look very much like Hollywood productions, with 24 coming in mind here. John Abraham’s performance in this movie is very good as an army Intelligence officer who embarks on a covert op to try disrupt a rebel group, while Nargis Fakhri plays a war correspondent from London (not the typical Bollywood actress who will jump around singing and dancing or doing romance).

The movie is not flawless however, but who really does manage to do a flawless movie, be it in Bollywood or Hollywood 😈

However, on the overall, Madras Cafe will keep you on the edge of your seat till the end, with only one song towards the conclusion of the movie, whereby all the time you are focused on the plot rather than have stupid songs in between to disrupt the flow of the movie. It is a must watch if you really like this genre of movies. My personal rating for this one is a 9 out of 10.
